How to meet the SFR
To become a fully registered teacher in Scotland, you are required to meet the Standard for Full Registration (SFR).
The SFR sets out the qualities and capabilities expected of you during your probation period. and provides a professional standard against which decisions can be made on whether to grant you full registration.
Your probationary experience should result in professional development in all three key elements of the SFR:
- Professional Knowledge and Understanding
- Professional Skills and Abilities
- Professional Values and Personal Commitment
Professional Knowledge and Understanding
Professional knowledge and understanding is the first aspect of the SFR which you are required to meet. This involves:
- curriculum
- education systems and professional responsibilities
- principles and perspectives
Professional Skills and Abilities
Professional skills and abilities is the second aspect of the SFR which you are required to meet. This involves:
- teaching and learning
- classroom organisation and management
- assessment of pupils
- professional reflection and communications
Professional Values and Personal Commitment
Professional values and personal commitment is the third aspect of the SFR which you are required to meet. This involves:
- a commitment to social justice and inclusion in your day-to-day practice
- that you take responsibility for your professional learning and development
- that you value, respect and are an active partner in the communities in which you work
