Processing Final Reports

Once we receive your Final Report it will be checked to ensure full service has been completed and a recommendation has been made.

On successful completion a certificate of Full Registration will be issued confirming either primary or secondary and, in the case of secondary, the subject(s).

Your certificate of Full Registration will be sent to the address held on the Register. It is therefore important to notify GTC Scotland of any change of address as soon as possible. Failure to do so may result in your certificate being sent to the wrong address and a charge may apply for a replacement certificate.

Recommendation for an extension

If your Final Report recommends an extension to your probationary period you will be notified in writing of the further period required. You have the right, within 28 days from the date of service of this notice, to request reconsideration of your case by writing to the GTC Scotland Professional Learning and Development Department. Your case will then be considered by a Panel from the Professional Standards Committee.

If you complete your extension period in one school, you should arrange to complete a Final Report at the end of your extension. If your extension period is carried out via individual days or short periods in a school please arrange to submit either a Record of Teaching Service sheet or an Interim Report form if the service is more than 20 days. A Final Report form must be submitted at the end of the extension period.

Recommendation for cancellation

On receipt of a recommendation that registration should be cancelled, the case will be considered by the members of the Professional Standards Committee. Probationers have the right to be present and/or be represented at this meeting.

Recommendations for cancellation should be made following a clear professional judgement that, despite all efforts to help, the probationer concerned has no prospect of achieving the SFR.

In addition, an appeal can be made against the Professional Standards Committee's decision by writing to the Appeals Board.
