Professional knowledge and understanding
The first of the three aspects of The Standard for Full Registration (SFR) that you are required to meet is Professional Knowledge and Understanding. This involves:
- Curriculum
- Education systems and Professional Responsibilities
- Principles and Perspectives
Curriculum
You are required to have:
- detailed knowledge and understanding of the relevant areas of the pre-school, primary or secondary school curriculum
- sufficient knowledge and understanding to fulfil your responsibilities for literacy and numeracy; personal, social and health education; and ICT. (As appropriate to the sector and stage of development.
- an understanding the nature of the curriculum and its development
- sufficient knowledge and understanding to meet your responsibilities to teach cross-curricular aspects.
Suggested sources of evidence:
- long, medium and short term plans
- pupils' work
- discuss the planning, organisation and management of learning
Education systems and Professional Responsibilities
You are required to have:
- a broad understanding of the principal features of the education system, educational policy and practice, and of your part in it
- detailed working knowledge of your sector, of the school(s) and of your professional responsibilities within them

Principles and Perspectives
You are required to:
- articulate your professional values and practices and relate them to theoretical principles and perspectives
