Supporter's role
Your in-school supporter is a key figure in your development as a probationer, acting as your primary support within the school.
Supporters have a responsibility for helping you to decide your initial CPD experiences and providing you with regular support and feedback. They are expected to:
- get to know you professionally and personally
- create an open, supportive and challenging climate for discussion
- co-ordinate and manage your CPD experiences
- monitor and evaluate progress through Observed Teaching Sessions, providing feedback, organising regular meetings focusing on the self-evaluation of your progress and identifying development needs and action plans
- ensure that opportunities are provided to address your professional development needs
- provide pastoral support, when appropriate
- oversee the development, implementation and review of your action plans and CPD Portfolio
- monitor and evaluate the quality and effectiveness of the school support programme
- encourage you to reflect on your teaching and evaluate pupils’ learning
- complete in conjunction with the headteachers, your and
- liaise with your local authority induction co-ordinator and continuing professional development co-ordinator
