Extension process

If your Final Report recommends an extension to your probationary period you will be notified in writing of the further period required.

You have the right, within 28 days from the date of this notice, to request reconsideration of your case by writing to our Professional Learning and Development Department. Your case will then be considered by a Panel from the Professional Standards Committee.

Competency extensions

If you are granted an extension to your period of probation on the grounds of competency, the length of the extension is normally 12 weeks (and you will be required to complete a minimum of 0.9FTE of class contact). The extension would normally be carried out within the same local authority but it is unlikely to be in the same school you undertook your induction placement.

On completion of the extension you will be required to submit an extension profile.

Health extensions

If you have been granted an extension on the grounds of health, the length the extension will cover is the total length of the absence. For example, if you are absent for 6 weeks then you will have to complete a 6 week extension.

You will be contracted to work 0.7FTE with 0.3FTE for supporter meetings and CPD.

The extension would normally be completed within the same local authority and may be in the same school you undertook your induction placement.

On completion of the extension you will be required to submit an extension profile.
